Dr. L. Silva deed 16 jaar lang onderzoek naar de effectiviteit van qigong massage voor autisme. Tot nu werden er 21 wetenschappelijke studies gepubliceerd die de effecten van de QST massage protocols evalueren bij kinderen met autisme of het syndroom van down. Gerandomiseerde en gecontroleerde studies tonen sterke verbeteringen aan op sensorisch gebied, in het gedrag en in de ontwikkeling van het kind. Bij kinderen met autisme verbeteren alle aspecten van het autisme en wordt het autisme minder ernstig. Bij kinderen met down syndroom verbeteren de motorische vaardigheden en de taalvaardigheid.
